Writing from The Heart

"Writing from The Heart" is a workshop on creative writing, creative drawing, and creative drama. There are three available versions of this workshop: one for beginners on the secondary, tertiary, and graduate levels, and another for practitioners. A third version of this workshop is designed as an outreach program to disadvantaged and underserved audiences such as the disabled, the poor and the marginalized, victims of human trafficking, battered women and abused children, drug rehabilitation center residents, child combatants, children in conflict with the law, prisoners, and gang leaders. This third version incorporates creativity and problem awareness, conflict resolution, crisis intervention, trauma therapy, and peacemaking.

You Are A Writer

You are a writer. You are a writer regardless of anyone and anything else.

If you have a publisher, that is well and good. However, if you do not have a publisher, you are still a writer. You continue to be a writer without a publisher, but a publisher cannot continue to be a publisher without you.

You are a writer. Consider all of the superfluous jobs that followed your being a writer, and all because you are a writer.

You gave birth to the editor, the proofreader, the layout artist, the book designer, the publisher, the translator, the marketing manager, the distributor, the book store owner, and the book store sales person. You gave birth to many more--including the entire production groups, casts, and crews of those who chose to render your works on stage or on screen.

They are superfluous because, even if all of them died at the same time, you would still be what you are.

A writer.

Never let anyone make you feel that they are superior to you. Their very existence depends on you.
